Makanda Township is working to reduce the risk and minimize harm from wildfires in Makanda Township. The US Forest Service has provided funding to hire David Allen, the Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) Coordinator, who works with individual property owners to reduce the risk of wildfire on their properties, partners with other agencies to address potential hazards from wildfires, and conducts education outreach to interested community groups. No matter if you own hundreds of acres or a small lot, David can meet with you to identify potential wildfire hazards on your property. David Allen or Sara Lipe would also be pleased to speak at Homeowner Association Meetings, school groups or other community groups to enhance their awareness of reducing the risk of wildfires.
The CWPP identifies wildfire hazards and mitigating measures for Makanda Township and is revised periodically.
